Developer Zibri has posted a package for both Mac OS X and Windows that claims to jailbreak, activate and unlock all iPhones running software/firmware 1.1.3 (including out-of-the-box [OTB]) devices. The package uses the “true” jailbreak method that the iPhone dev team was attempting to keep secret until the release of Apple’s official SDK rather than the previously divulged “soft-upgrade” method. Jailbreaking provides read/write iPhone filesystem access, allowing installation of unofficial third-party applications.
The jailbreak method includes incomplete instructions, however. Here’s what you need to do to make it work:
On a Mac:
- Download this file
- Downgrade to iTunes 7.4.2. Download iTunes then download Pacifist. Use Pacifist to open the iTunes package then force an install and restart (this step may not be necessary).
- Launch the Terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities)
- Drag the file “ziphone” in the first file you downloaded onto the Terminal window then type “-j”; the command should look something like this: /Users/username/Downloads/ZiPhone\ Folder/ZiPhone/ziphone -j.
- Follow the on-screen instructions
On a Windows system
- Download this file
- Downgrade to iTunes 7.4.2. Download iTunes 7.4.2) then install it and restart (this step may not be necessary).
- Run “ziphone.exe” from the first file you downloaded.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Note that some users are still experiencing problems jailbreaking with this package, and that this package was released without the consent of the iPhone dev team who has been refining the method and attempting to keep it secret until the release of Apple’s iPhone SDK.
If this method fails for you, see our Applications page for full instructions on jailbreaking all firmware/software revisions.
We’re not yet entirely sure how it works, but iPhone hacker Zibri’s just released a new app he’s calling ZiPhone, which claims to jailbreak any version iPhone — including new 1.1.3 phones right out of the box — without messy downgrades and baseband changes. We haven’t tested it ourselves, but prepare for the onslaught of downloaders to take it offline in five… four… three…
Enjoy guys….
